SPKG-1022 Aviation English – Preparation for CFAL
This course is designed to provide non-native speakers of English the speaking and listening skills necessary to be successful in the Commercial Flight and Aviation Leadership program at Fanshawe College. It is specifically designed to improve skill in each of the following areas for student success in preparation for career success as a pilot.

SKILLS
VOCABULARY
Say and understand words related to aviation and general contexts.
PRONUNCIATION
Develop clear and understandable speech using standard aviation pronunciation.
STRUCTURE
Use proper spoken grammar to communicate meaning clearly.
FLUENCY
Speak smoothly with natural rhythm and flow, using pauses when appropriate.
COMPREHENSION
Understand what is said in new and unexpected situations.
INTERACTION
Manage conversations naturally by using strategies to deal with routine procedures, emergencies and misunderstandings.

TESTED LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Expert
Students who achieve expert language proficiency do not need to take further language tests. Aviation companies prefer to hire people with this level.
Operational
Achieving this score allows students to fly. However, they must take the test again until they reach the EXPERT level.
Below Operational
Students with this score are not allowed to fly in Canada, even for learning purposes. They will not participate in flying activities for class.
COURSE DELIVERY
 60 hours of instruction (4 hrs/week for 15 weeks)
Live, synchronous online instruction by faculty experts

A high score in all six of these language skills will increase your chances of success in the Commercial Flight and Aviation program and on the formal aviation language proficiency demonstration, and in finding a job in the industry. Low ability in any of these skills will prevent students from completing the program and of being employed as a pilot.
